The salon

Light, bright, and built to be sat in.

Andrea had one brief for this room when she fitted it out: minimalistic, warm, luminous, serene. That is still the whole idea. Exposed brick, arched mirrors, a lot of daylight through the front, and enough space between chairs that a colour appointment does not feel like a production line.

01

14 stations

So the team can run properly, and so an appointment starts when it is booked to start.

02

A six seater colour table

Room to mix, blend and match extensions in one place instead of working out of a trolley.

03

A private basin room

Designed for ultimate client relaxation, in Andrea’s words. Away from the noise of the floor.

What we do

Colour first, and everything that keeps it looking like that.

Hair created with intention every time, in an inclusive space for all. That is the salon’s own line, and it is a fair description of how the work here gets booked and planned.

Blondes

Our signature Soul Blondies. Bright, lived in, and looked after, with the toning and the aftercare to keep them that way.

Ask for Andrea and Ash

Foils and balayage

Hand painted and foiled colour, built around how your hair actually grows out rather than how it looks on day one.

Ask for Andrea

Colour correction

The long jobs. Banded regrowth, a box dye that went sideways, years of build up. Booked with the time they genuinely need.

Ask for Andrea

Extensions

Hair Candy Extensions, matched and fitted in salon, with a colour table big enough to blend them properly.

Ask for Ash

Cutting, including short hair

Short cuts, pixies and curly cuts are a specialty here, not an afterthought at the end of a colour appointment.

Ask for Bryce

Creative and alternative colour

Statement colour and looks that break the mould, for anyone who wants their hair to say something specific.

Ask for Kyra

Every service is quoted in the chair, because the time and the product a head of hair needs is not something to guess at over the phone. Ring the salon and the team will talk it through with you.

Recent work

Soul Blondies, and everything either side of them.

Photographs from the salon’s own Google listing.

Cool toned blonde balayage, cut to a soft lob and curled
Warm copper and strawberry blonde with fine light highlights through the front
Long, very pale blonde worn straight, seen from behind

The team

Still learning, on purpose.

Education is not a nice extra here. There is a check in every month, and the whole team goes to hair festival in Sydney together once a year. It is the reason the work keeps moving forward instead of settling.

Andrea

Founder and Co-Director

Started at fifteen and has spent nearly twenty years behind the chair. Her craft is foils, balayage and colour correction.

Ash

Stylist and Co-Director

The eldest of five girls, and a firm believer in never being finished learning. Her thing is bright blondes and extensions.

Bryce

Master Stylist

Over fifteen years in makeup artistry as well as hair, and a real knack for stunning short hair looks.

Tiff

Master Stylist

Put hairdressing on hold for a while and came back to it wholeheartedly. Committed to getting better every week.

Immy

Master Stylist

Drawn to what a haircut does to how somebody carries themselves, which is the part of the job she holds dear.

Ali

Emerging Stylist

An optimist with a grounded sense of realism, and a fast learner. Focused on how it feels to sit in the chair.

Kyra

Emerging Stylist

Proudly LGBTQIA+ and First Nations. Passionate about a space where everyone feels seen, and about creative colour.

Ava

First Year Apprentice

Majored in art at school and turned that into a trade. When she is not in the salon she is at the speedway.

Our story

Where the name came from.

Andrea moved to Gunnedah after a lifetime and a career in Sydney. She tried working for somebody else in town first, and quickly worked out she had more to offer than that arrangement allowed.

She was on the point of signing a lease in early 2020 when the pandemic arrived. She walked away from it rather than take the risk. A couple of months later a bigger and better space came up, and she fitted it out with her husband and his father in a matter of weeks.

A former boss once told her that creating good hair is the bare minimum. It stuck. The aim was never only the colour: it was that every client’s soul should feel a bit lifted on the way out. That is where Soul Hair Studio got its name.

“A good brand, to me, is all about clear and authentic intention.”

Andrea, in her CPR Hair salon profile

When she asked her clients on Instagram how the salon makes them feel, the answers that came back were welcomed, calm, safe and relaxed, at home, accepted, and ready to be pampered. Those are their words, not ours.

Soul Babies

A corner of the salon that belongs to the kids.

Its own arch on the wall, its own name in rope lettering, a play kitchen and a couple of boxes of books. It exists so that a parent can sit through a full colour without watching the clock, and so that a first haircut happens somewhere a child actually wants to be.

CPR Hair

Colour and haircare, and the reason the salon looked at CPR in the first place: as natural as possible without compromising on quality, with real education behind it. Soul is CPR’s first Signature Salon.

Kerasilk

A premium haircare range brought in with the new salon, for the heads that need more than a shampoo and a hope.

Hair Candy Extensions

A premium extension brand, now stocked in salon so colour matching and fitting happen in the one appointment.

Bryce!!!! Bryce did a cut on my curly hair and trusted him fully. I want to thank you for being great!! And my mum wanted to add on to mine as she also got a curly cut done from him. When she was in hospital she didn’t feel confident within herself and asked if I could recommend her a salon, I recommended Bryce and she came out with the most beautiful pixie cut and she also wants to thank him for being so lovely. Love Camilla and Julie ❤️

Kyra is amazing! Always so beautful, kind, bubbly, and accommodating, she absolutely nails the brief every time. She really cares, and her attention to detail is perfection. She has already achieved so much since starting at Soul Hair Studio... literally is there anything she can’t do!? Couldn’t recommend her more! Thanks Kyra x
